  • 11am 9/8/2023 this trip is still a GO! Meet Time changed to 9:00am - 9:30am Butts in Boats:  10:00.    Weather predictions = 14 - 24 percent chance of rain & T-storms prior to 1pm.    2pm predictions =  50 percent.  We will watch the radar on the trip and turn around if thunderstorms get close by.

Reminder:  PLEASE READ to understand the information concerning the unique conditions to drop off your kayak at the launch site.  It has been highlighted in YELLOW!                                                                          

  • Registrations close 24 hours prior to the paddle = 9/8, Fri at 10am
  • This trip is appropriate for Blue/Black - Intermediate Paddling Level.   There can be strong winds and currents crossing the lake to the islands. Blue/Black - Intermediate Paddling Level:  able to paddle casual & continuous 3-5hrs + including experience & strength for control in challenging currents and windy situations.
  • This is a recreational paddle.  The trip is a beautiful lake paddle.  You might even see American bald eagles. We will hug the shore then paddle out to circle Moon Island where we will make a stop at the public dock and beach for a swim and a picnic lunch.   Rest room facilities available on Moon Island.
  • Meet Time: 9:30-10:00 am Changed 9/8 9:00 - 9:30am to get everyone organized and set at the launch.  The launch is to the left of the building. Small access road circling the boat house and launch area with only 3-4 cars able to unload at a time. After unloading, you need to move your car to the parking lot - on the far right side of the building. OR, You can park in the parking lot to the far right of the building and use wheels to cart your Kayak and supplies to the boat launch, which is to the left, 150yds.  Cart-wheel kayak behind the SLA building to the boat launch ramp.
  • Public restrooms are located in the front and in the back of the SLA building.
  • Boat rentals are available at $50.00 for a kayak, paddle and PFD.  YOU must call or go online and reserve your own rentals, if needed. Phone: 603 968-7336, https://wwwsquamlakes.org/boat-rentals 
  • Launch time:  BIB (butts in boats,) 10:30 am Changed to 10:00am 9/8                
  • Paddling Time:  2.5 - 3 hours+ (1-1 1/2 hrs each way)  
  • Après: 3 to 4:30 PM    Reservations will be made for all.  If you are NOT going to the Après  at  -  Walter's Basin Restaurant 3pm -  Walter's Basin Restaurant, TEXT or EMAIL Nancy KC ASAP.                             
  Be respectful of others.  Be early and on time to depart at BIB!                  
  • Event Details:  Bring $5.00 Cash for parkingYOU Pay at the SLA building.  Directions from Manchester -   534 US-3, Holderness, NH.  Take I-93 North to Exit 24 for US-3/NH-25 toward Ashland/Holderness.   Go 0.2 miles - Keep Right at the fork to continue toward NH-25 E/US-3 S.   Go 6.1 miles to Squam Lakes Association-located on the Left.                                                                                                                                   
  • Après Paddle - 3pm -  Walter's Basin Restaurant & Basshole Lounge  859 US Route 3, Holderness, NH 

As a NH Ski Club member, I will make sure I have the right supplies & equipment to keep myself safe while participating in this event along with any guest(s) I choose to bring.  I will keep up & stay with the group(s).  I will release my emergency contact information to the Trip Organizer and provide any guest(s) name and emergency contact information prior to the paddle.

  • Checklist of things to bring:

- PFD - Paddle(s) - Plenty of drinking water - Lunch/Snacks
- Bathing Suit/Towel/HAT - Insect repellent - Sunscreen
- Water Toys... Pumps double nicely as a water squirter!
- Rain Gear!... two 10 gallon bags have multi uses.                                    - Bow line to tie your kayak to the dock on Moon Island - Glasses keeper    - Water shoes...NO Flip Flops  - Transport wheels for kayak.

  • AS A CONDITION OF ATTENDING THIS KAYAK DAY TRIP, YOU AGREE TO: Hold harmless, and indemnify the organizer(s) and their relations and heirs, and all members and participants of the NH Ski Club from any and all claims for injury, illness, death, and/or property damage including those caused by negligence, ignorance, inexperience and other reasons. You also agree to assume all mental, physical, financial, and/or other risk associated with this NHSC activity. Kayaking, camping, hiking, skiing, bicycling and other activities pose inherent risks and dangers. Participation in these activities is voluntary and dependent upon your own personal judgement. In the interest of safety, wearing a US Coast Guard approved Lifejacket (PFD), securely fitted is required while paddling with this group  All Guest(s) will be required to sign a Disclaimer-Liability Release with emergency contact information.
