Where we've been and where we're going...
The New Hampshire Ski Club emerged in the mid 80s when Ken Preve started as Alumni Director for NH College. He came up with the idea of running a bus trip to Quebec for Winter Carnival to raise money from alumni to help fund scholarships. In October 1993, Ken and a few friends formalized the club to help provide discounted ski benefits to participants while membership fees raised additional scholarship money.
In the summer of 1997, Ken left the college to pursue other interests. With his departure, the club technically ceased to exist. There were no funds or resources to sustain activities. But Ken refused to let the club fade away... he put together a letter to all Board of Advisors, past officers, and other key people explaining that he would provide the money to keep the club going and make any changes seamless to members. His dedication proved successful, and the club continued to flourish.
Sadly in May of 2000, Ken passed away. His family and the Board decided to change the club to a non-profit corporation for many positive reasons: member liability, tax liability, to further improve relationships with the ski industry, and to increase charitable activity. NH Ski Club incorporated with the state as non-profit in September 2000. Our new charter is to keep Ken's memory and mission alive — to build a strong, growing membership and provide the best benefits. We've also added the responsibility of raising money to donate in his name.
We know that with your help and continued support, we will achieve our goals.
